White Bear Ranch was born from a dream—and built by our own hands. A love for the land, the stars, and the stillness of West Texas. Tucked in the wide-open desert between Alpine and Big Bend, our ranch is a place where time slows down, the skies stretch forever, and the spirit of the land speaks.
Our journey began with a simple dream: to create a peaceful, off-the-beaten-path retreat where people could unplug, reconnect with nature, and experience the magic of the Big Bend region. What started as a quiet escape for our own family has grown into a gathering place for travelers, stargazers, and adventurers from all walks of life.

We designed and built the ranch ourselves, crafting each cabin and space with intention, care, and deep respect for the land and its spirit.
The name “White Bear” carries both personal and spiritual weight. It honors one of our owners, whose Native name is White Bear. Marty (White Bear) is the Principal Chief of the Southern Cherokee Nation of Kentucky—a sovereign, state recognized tribe rooted in resilience and cultural preservation. The values of his Cherokee heritage—strength, protection, tradition, and connection to land—are woven into the foundation of the ranch. Every guest who stays here becomes part of that larger story.
As a family-owned and operated retreat, we welcome stargazers, adventurers, artists, and those simply seeking stillness. Whether you’re exploring Big Bend, watching the sun fall behind the mountains, or just resting under the desert sky, White Bear Ranch is a place to feel grounded, cared for, and inspired. Welcome to White Bear Ranch.
